Klean Kanteen: business for good
The Klean story started in 2002 in Chico, California. From the beginning, this family- and employee-owned company has been driven by love – love of adventure, love of conserving wild places and the love of replacing single-use plastic. Since launching its first BPA-free stainless steel bottles, Klean Kanteen has inspired other companies to make high-quality reusable drinkware. Klean Kanteen takes pride in that, understanding that when it comes to kicking plastic, we’re all in this together.

Klean recognizes that its business has an impact on the environment – which is why the company does everything it can to minimize that impact and use the business as a force for good. Believing all businesses should be accountable for their carbon emissions, Klean Kanteen has been a Climate Neutral Certified brand since 2019. The company is also a Certified B Corp, ensuring it meets the highest standards of social and environmental transparency, accountability and performance. Through a partnership with 1% For The Planet, Klean Kanteen has also donated over $3.4 million (and counting!) to organizations working to make the world more sustainable.
Like the business model, Klean Kanteen product development is driven by integrity. With a circular design approach, Klean uses fewer virgin resources, creates less waste and ultimately delivers safe products that last longer. Commitment to innovation is key, with a mission to move away from single-use steel. The company’s straws and TKWide line are now manufactured using certified 90% post-consumer 18/8 stainless steel. This change reduces greenhouse gas emissions from the steel they use by 40% – and by next year, 95% of Klean Kanteen products will be made from recycled steel.
